Like the First Time – Poem #44

Standing alone at the bar
Trying to pluck up the courage
Insides alight with whisky
Chasing one more fight with you
Followed by the suns reflection
In the radiation of a morning smile
I want one more last time
One last kiss, one last fight
One last prod with the tip of your knife
One last drink to drown out
All the memories I’m drunk with
One last sip until I find something to numb this pain
And fill the space
Until I can see you
Stumbling against this bar
Like it was the very first time again.
