Cry For Help – Poem #37

Cry For Help – Poem #37

I heard a cry for help
And couldn’t stay silent
We’re too engrossed with ourselves
To dispel the wrath of tyrants

They labelled me a citizen
Then said I don’t belong here
My name tag reads dissident
Because I won’t profit from tears

The choice between myself and right
Was a difficult choice to make
Selfishness or a self-righteous fight
As we debate which life to take

But there’s hope for us all
If there’s hope for them too
All we build with these walls
Is the distance between the truth

We inflict this misery
In the name of our blessings
On the wrong side of history
But the right side of the present
